The writing team of Bill Martin Jr and Michael Sampson came together in 1978, when the duo met at a conference in Arizona. Over the next 25 years, the two wrote 26 books for children, including CHICKA, CHICKA, 1, 2, 3 and PANDA BEAR, PANDA BEAR, WHAT DO YOU SEE ?
They also trained more than 1000,000 teachers in their PATHWAYS TO LITERACY workshops over 22 summers. That tradition continues today. In additon, Michael presents their writing techniques at writing confernces arond the country as he shares how to write children's book and how to get published.
In 2006, I LOVE THIS EARTH was published. In 2007, BABY BEAR, BABY BEAR, WHAT DO YOU SEE came out, and instantly became a New York Times best-seller! KITTY CAT, KITTY CAT, ARE YOU WAKING UP was published in 2008, and has two sequals. In November 2008, THE BILL MARTIN JR BOOK OF POETRY a tribute to Bill Martin Jr, edited by Michael Sampson was released. Bill and Michael worked 10 years selecting their favorite poems for the collection, as well as writing their own. They also recorded themselves performing the poetry, which will soon be available on iTunes. The most recent Martin/Sampson collaboration was KITTY CAT, KITTY CAT, ARE YOU GOING TO SCHOOL. And the good news is that even with the passing of Bill in 2004, more Bill Martin / Michael Sampson books will continue to be released in the coming years - books Bill Martin and Michael Sampson completed but had not submitted to publishers. The latest Bill Martin/Michael Sampson books, LISTEN TO THE WORLD and SPUNKY LITTLE MONKEY are now published and in print. Michael is currenlty writing a beloved dog story--JoJo the Tornado Dog.
